Experienced Doula, Breastfeeding Peer Counselor
Vanessa Bussell is a student midwife, birth doula, HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Educator, Lactation Counselor, and Restorative Justice Circle Keeper. She owns Vanessa's Butterfly Birth and Tacoma HypnoBirthing. She volunteers as a Black Infant Health Minister for Tacoma Pierce County Health Department and coordinates resources for families.
Vanessa was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. She began working with families at a daycare in 2017, working with children ages 0-12. From there, she began connecting and working in her community. Connecting with babies and families led to her learning about Black infant and maternal mortality rate. In 2019, Vanessa became a doula, HypnoBirthing childbirth educator, and lactation counselor. Vanessa has been doing birthwork for the last year and has supported over 30 families. Vanessa's agenda is that "all birthing people and their families have a memorable birth experience. Birth is a life experience not a medical event and should be treated as such."
Currently, Vanessa resides in Renton, WA with her pup Onyx. When she isn't doing birthwork you can find her outdoors, in the kitchen, creating art, or listening to music.
